Duties Description Under the supervision of the Regional Trails Coordinator, the incumbent will perform a variety of duties relating to the care and maintenance of the Black Diamond Trail and the Catherine Valley Trail in the Finger Lakes State Park Region.
The position involves heavy manual labor, working outdoors and the ability to operate a variety of pieces of equipment including UTVs, power tools, brush cutters, chainsaws and mowers.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Mowing and brush removal; Trail resurfacing, culvert cleaning and maintenance, and erosion control; Performs routine manual maintenance tasks such as painting, light carpentry, and sign installation; Removal of invasive species; Chainsaw operation to remove downed trees form trail and standing hazard trees; Inspects the operating area to identify potential safety hazards, needs for skilled maintenance, landscaping requirements, litter control, refuse removal, etc.
, report findings to supervisor(s) and/or undertakes corrective action.
Additional Comments OPERATIONAL NEEDS:
Ability to perform medium to heavy physical labor and to lift a minimum of 50 lbs.
Must possess and maintain a valid New York State Motor Vehicle Operator's License as a term and condition of employment.
Must have the ability to safely and effectively operate and use hand and power tools.
Must be able to follow written direction, record and document required information and communicate effectively.
Must be physically able to perform medium to heavy manual labor.
Must have the ability to operate a chainsaw and must have completed Game of Logging within the probationary period as a term and condition of employment.
Must also be able to communicate effectively with other staff and with park patrons.
Preferred
Experience:
Previous experience with outdoor labor, construction, and/or landscaping preferred.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.
